Back in 1993, a Ft. Lauderdale
restaurateur noticed that many
of his neighbors were starting
to eat veggie burgers. He also
noticed the slightly pained
expressions on their faces.
So, being the nice guy that he
is, he set out to create a
meatless burger that actually
tastes good. And with the
creation of the Sun Burger,
Boca Foods was born. And
people finally had a delicious
alternative to the traditional
burger.
But why stop at the burger?
When the country eats up what
youâ??re doing, it kind of spurs
you to do moreâ?¦While many
Americans see the introduction
of soy foods as a relatively
new phenomenon, the humble
soybean has a long and storied
history. The first written
record dates from 2838 BC when
the Chinese Emperor,
Cheng-Nung, described the
soybean in a book on the
plants of China. The soybean
was considered one of five
sacred grains and was planted
annually by the Emperor
himself with great ceremony.
Soybeans arrived in America in
1765 and were first cultivated
by Henry Young in Thunderbolt,
Georgia. |
