ORGANIC APPLES are sweeter tasting, better for the environment and more profitable for growers, according to a study conducted in the United States.
The five-year research by scientists at Washington State University into apple growing found that organic orchards are economically competitive as well as having less impact on the environment than farming based on artificial pesticides and fertilisers.
"When compared with the conventional and integrated systems, the organic system produced sweeter and less tart apples, higher profitability and greater energy efficiency".
