Hummus is a Mediterranean, Middle Eastern dish made from cooked pureed chickpeas, sesame seed tahini and select fresh Mediterranean spices. Other ingredients, such as garlic, and lemon juice are often added - as well as garnishes such as whole chickpeas, roasted red peppers, etc.
The word Hummus means chickpea in Arabic - and the word chickpea is Garbanzo in Spanish, Ceci in Italian and Gram in India.
